Maternity sessions are about more than a beautiful dress and good light. They are about the anticipation, strength, tenderness, and strangeness of a season that disappears almost as soon as it arrives.
I keep maternity sessions comfortable and flattering, with gentle direction and a calm pace so you can feel like yourself.

Planning notes for Utah sessions
Good photos usually start before the camera comes out. For maternity, I pay attention to season, location, light, access, outfits, timing, and how comfortable the people in front of the camera actually feel.
Utah gives us a lot to work with: open fields, mountain edges, city texture, clean interiors, venues, homes, and quiet neighborhood locations. The best choice is not always the most dramatic spot. It is the place that fits the people, the weather, the schedule, and the kind of gallery you want to keep.
What I want the final gallery to do
I want the final images to feel polished without losing the real feeling of the day or session. That means clean composition, warm editing, flattering direction, and enough variety that the gallery can live beyond one social post.
For some sessions, that means movement and connection. For others, it means careful details, confident portraits, or clean property images. Either way, the goal is a gallery that feels useful, emotional, and worth returning to years from now.
Who this is for
Moms and growing families who want maternity images that feel soft, flattering, calm, and emotionally grounded.
Maternity photos should feel calm, not overdone
Pregnancy is beautiful, but it is also physical, emotional, tiring, and personal. I do not treat maternity sessions like a costume shoot. I want the images to feel flattering, soft, and strong without making you perform a version of motherhood that does not feel like you.
Some maternity sessions are quiet and intimate. Some include a partner and children. Some feel more editorial with a flowing dress and golden-hour light. The common thread is comfort. I move at a pace that works for your body, give gentle direction, and keep the focus on connection, anticipation, and the real season you are in.
The finished gallery should feel tender without becoming cheesy. It should give you images that honor this short chapter and still feel like something you will want to look at years from now.
When to schedule maternity photos in Utah
Most clients aim for the 28 to 34 week window, but comfort matters more than a strict rule. If you are carrying multiples, dealing with a hard pregnancy, or have a specific seasonal look in mind, we can adjust the timing. The best session date is the one that gives us a visible belly and enough energy to move comfortably.
Season matters too. Spring gives soft greens and blossoms, summer gives long golden evenings, fall gives warmth and texture, and winter can be beautiful with neutral layers or snow. Utah weather can be moody, so I build sessions with flexibility and a backup mindset.
Wardrobe does a lot of the visual work in maternity photography. Flowing fabrics, soft colors, texture, and a fit that lets you move comfortably usually photograph best. You do not need a huge wardrobe. One strong look in the right light is better than six rushed changes.
Including partners, kids, and family
Maternity sessions can be just you, you and your partner, or the whole family. If siblings are included, I make space for them to be kids while still getting the images you came for. We can start with family connection, then give you quieter solo portraits once the kids have had their moment.
Partners often worry they will not know what to do. That is fine. I will guide hands, closeness, walking, standing, and small interactions so the images feel connected instead of stiff. Nobody needs to show up already knowing how to pose.
If this is a first baby, the session can feel more quiet and focused. If this is baby number three and everyone is climbing on everyone, that can be beautiful too. The session should fit the actual family you are becoming.
Session planning checklist
- Reach out in the second trimester if possible so timing and location are easier to choose.
- Aim for 28 to 34 weeks unless comfort, medical needs, or season suggest otherwise.
- Choose wardrobe that moves, flatters, and feels comfortable enough to sit and walk in.
- Decide whether the session should include partner, children, or solo portraits only.
- Keep the schedule gentle. A maternity session does not need to be rushed to be beautiful.
